WAPPINGERS FALLS – A Friday evening three-car accident at the intersection of Route 9 and Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls sent one person to the hospital, clinging to life, and shut down the northbound lanes of Route 9 in the area.

At approximately 7:38 p.m., a Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office deputy witnessed an accident in which a pickup traveling south on Route 9 allegedly ran the red light at Route 9 intersection while trying to turn left on Myers Corners Road and struck two other vehicles.

An occupant of the truck was ejected as the vehicle was rolling over.  The ejected individual fell to the pavement and the truck landed on top of the person.  Dutchess County 911 radio traffic indicated that both the deputy and Ray Valentin, Deputy Chief of the New Hackensack Fire Department, witnessed the wreck and radioed for assistance.  Both reported it to 911 and advised that EMS needed to expedite for a patient with a “severe” head injury.

Law enforcement from the sheriff’s office and State Police responded to the scene along with the Hughsonville Fire Department and medics from EMStar.

All three northbound lanes of Route 9 were shut down at Myers Corners Road as emergency personnel went to work.  A rescue rig from the New Hackensack Fire Department was summoned to the scene to provide lighting of the scene.

One patient, unofficially described as being in “critical condition,” was transported to a Poughkeepsie hospital.  The remaining victims were assessed at the scene by Mobile Life medics.

The sheriff’s office  Accident Investigation Unit arrived on the scene to conduct their review of the collision.
