ALBANY – Should school district budget votes be defeated during the current mail-in balloting, districts may set re-votes before the end of July, according to a gubernatorial executive order.

That is good news to State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and Senator Peter Harckham, who had introduced legislation to allow for one.

The current mail-in balloting was created because of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our schools continue to face immense challenges as they plan for the next school year, including the financial challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic and recession,” said Paulin.

Harckham said the action by Governor Cuomo will allow extra time for voters to reexamine budget priorities and, hopefully, provide students with the support and resources they deserve.”

“The second vote is part of the annual school district budget vote process… even in these extraordinary times,” said Pleasantville Union Free School District Superintendent Mary Fox-Alter.
