KINGSTON – As more and more people are moving north from the New York metropolitan area, the Ulster County Industrial Development Agency is ready to work with its partners in creating employment opportunities for the new residents.

IDA Board Chairwoman Fay Storms told fellow members on Wednesday that now is the time to start preparing for that growth.

“We are seeing an eye-popping rapid movement of citizens to our upstate region,” she said. “These residents will need jobs and resources. Companies large and small will start up or relocate. We are in one of the most beautiful regions with a multitude of resources at out disposal. Now is the time. Let’s roll up our sleeves and get to work.”

The state legislature is considering a measure that would allow IDA’s to make loans to companies for economic survival. At present, only local development corporations are allowed to make those types of loans.
