Rear seat passenger killed in crash on Garden State Parkway

CHESTNUT RIDGE – A rear-end crash on the Garden State Parkway in Chestnut Ridge resulted in the death of one person.

State Police said the 0:30 p.m. accident on Friday, June 5 involved a 2004 Ford F-150 truck rear-ending a 2016 Freightliner tractor-trailer in the parkway in Chestnut Ridge.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, William Crawford, 54, of Phenix City, Alabama was slowing down in the right lane with hazard lights on, preparing to get off the parkway. He was not injured.

The driver of the F-150, Edgar Cevellos Vega, 48, of Harrison, was transported to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.

His front seat passenger, Maria Vega, 70, of Spring Valley, suffered several non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

The rear seat passenger in the F-150, Luis Cevellos Vega, 23, of Spring Valley, was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Westchester Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

State Police Troop F BCI, Collision Reconstruction Unit, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to the scene to assist troopers from the Tarrytown barracks with the investigation.
