Poughkeepsie man arrested in connection with stolen car crash

POUGHKEEPSIE – A Poughkeepsie man was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail following his arrest on Saturday morning.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police received a report of a vehicle stolen from MidHudson Regional Hospital. The vehicle, which was taken around 6 a.m., was spotted by a Town of Poughkeepsie Police officer in the area of Route 44 and Burnett Boulevard around 8:35. The driver, later identified as Matthew Speranza, 33, failed to comply with orders to pull over, but crashed on Worrall Avenue in the City of Poughkeepsie a short time later. He took off on foot, but was located and taken into custody.

Speranza was charged with two counts of criminal possession of stolen property by Poughkeepsie Town Police. They were assisted by Poughkeepsie Town Police.
