MID-HUDSON – Some member counties of the Mid-Hudson re-opening workgroup are not happy with the other counties lumped into the region.

The counties of Dutchess, Ulster, Sullivan, Orange, and Putnam would rather not have Westchester and Rockland included because those two lower counties have higher COVID-19 statistics.

Dutchess Executive Marcus Molinaro said the region could re-open sooner without Rockland and Westchester.

“We have consistently asked that we not be weighed by Westchester and Rockland. The state has not accepted that as a request, however, we know that within every region there is going to be variance. So, we have been assured that even though we exist in this region, that there is some variation, that there are certain things that frankly would have to be restricted in places like Westchester and New York City that clearly would not be necessary here,” he said.

Counties in the northern regions of New York will be allowed to re-open in phase one effective on Friday.
