POUGHKEEPSIE – Given the fact that nursing homes tend to have high instances of COVID-19 among residents, many of which are fatal, the counties of Dutchess and Ulster have asked the state for testing kits to check on every resident living in such a facility in both counties.

Dutchess Executive Marcus Molinaro said his county has enough tests for one nursing home and will proceed with testing there.

“In the meantime, Dutchess County does have access a small amount of test kits so to be proactive, we are going to proceed with testing every individual living in a nursing home in Dutchess County,” he said.

Wingate at Beacon nursing home has agreed to allow every resident there be tested for COVID-19 with the testing kits the county has in stock at present.
