NEWBURGH – Patrol officers in the City of Newburgh wear body cameras, which have been helpful in solving cases. A most recent fatal police-involved shooting was captured on a body camera showing a suspect pulling a gun and firing it as officers attempt to question him.

Mayor Torrance Harvey said since Orange County Sheriff’s deputies and state troopers often assist in the city, he thinks they should also be equipped with those devices.

“Because of the healthcare crisis and some of the activities of the city, their patrols have been increased and their presence has been even more here so we feel like what are they doing on the state and county level to implement a body cam program as well,” he said.

The body cameras are believed to be a good resource to document all sides of any interaction with the police.
