MID-HUDSON – A series of storms with heavy rainfall and fierce winds are currently impacting the Hudson Valley, leading to power outages and downed trees.
In Poughkeepsie, shortly after 10 a.m., a large portion of a tree fell onto a vehicle parked on Delafield Street in the vicinity of the Walkway Over The Hudson. City of Pough-keepsie police, firefighters, and DPW workers responded to the incident along with Central Hudson Gas & Electric.
Dutchess County has issued a statement about the “High Wind Watch” currently in effect
through Monday evening. “Dutchess County is being impacted by 20 to 30 mph wind gusts, with gusts of up to 60 mph possible. There are currently several isolated power outages reported at this time.” The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response added that individuals should never approach downed wires and keep at least thirty feet away from the potential hazard.
Strong winds have damaged a number of buildings in Orange County including a house on Renwick Street in the City of Newburgh, which had its roof partially ripped off. Other reports of wind damage are in Cornwall and southern Orange County.
There are also reports of wind damage in the Beacon area.
Tens of thousands of customers of area utility company ave had their power knocked out by strong winds toppling utility poles and trees bringing down power lines.
