ALBANY – Governor Cuomo Friday warned that we should not return to business as usual before COVID-19 without assessing how we got there and what happened when other countries eased up on restrictions too soon.

In his daily briefing, the governor said “We are in total control of our destinies” and should take it very cautiously and slowly.

“I don’t want to repeat what we just went through over this past month. What are the relevant questions? Is there going to be a second wave? Let’s look at the countries that have gone through this reopening process and what can we learn from them?” he said.

The governor renewed his call for a full federal Defense Production Act charge specific manufacturers to make things for the government to help fill in the gap of goods needed like face coverings and ventilators.

The key to reopening the economy is testing, the governor said and that is where requiring companies to develop and manufacture the tests comes in to play with a federally required program.
