Shots fired in Newburgh early this morning

NEWBURGH – Initial reports of a man being shot in the City of Newburgh early this morning turned out to be incorrect.

Witnesses told police a 21-year-old man had been wounded and investigators found shell casings on Benkard Avenue west of William Street and more shell casings on Benkard east of William indicating multiple shooters.

Several vehicles were struck by bullets.

Officers located a 21-year-old man a the hospital who told them he had been struck by a vehicle while fleeing the area of William Street after hearing gunshots.

The incident is under investigation. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to call them at 845-561-3131.
