NEWBURGH – A woman was found stabbed several times in the abdomen and arms early Thursday morning in the City of Newburgh.
Police were called to 24 Dubois Street for a report of a fire inside the building and a person who had been stabbed.
Responding officers were met by smoke inside the second floor hallway. Officers left the building and allowed the fire department extinguish the fire.
Investigators were approached by several witnesses who said a woman was on the fire escape in the rear of the building with apparent stab wounds.
Police found the 47-year-old who was treated by Mobile Life Support Services personnel and take her to the hospital for treatment.
She was listed in serious condition. Her name was not made public.
