NEWBURGH – Speed bumps and digital speed-reading displays are among the ideas being floated as a means to curb speeding in the City of Newburgh.

The city has one digital display device now and expects to order more, Police Chief Douglas Solomon told the city council Thursday evening.

Councilman Anthony Grice has another idea to slow drivers down who typically exceed the 30 mile per hour limit. “One of the ideas I have toyed around with before is reducing the speed limit in the City of Newburgh. Research indicates when you are going at least 25 miles per hour, the body fatalities decreases,” he said.

The topic will be the subject of further discussion going forward as officials attempt to get a grip on the problem.
