NANUET – The first death in the United States from the coronavirus has been reported in Washington State and while there have been no reported cases of the virus in New York State one state lawmaker would like state funding to keep it that way.

Senator David Carlucci (D, Nanuet) said the virus “must be taken seriously” by state lawmakers.

“We have seen the spread of the coronavirus around the globe. That is why it is important that New York State takes this seriously. We have had patients tested and quarantined right here in New York State,” he said. Public safety has to be the top priority, which is why the legislature must be proactive and approve emergency funding to combat the spreading of this deadly disease.”

On the federal level, Congress is approving additional money for vaccine development research and to come up with ways to prevent the disease from spreading.
