MID-HUDSON – Hospitals in the Hudson Valley are closely watching the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and are prepared to handle any cases that might appear in the region, officials of the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association say.

As of February 26, there are no confirmed cases in the Hudson Valley or state. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 14 confirmed cases in the United States.

Hospital association Senior Director of Communications and Population Health Janine Logan said communication is a key component of the readiness.

“One of the reasons we know that is because of the exercise and preparedness efforts that they had to go through when we were dealing with Ebola a few years ago,” she said. “The state now requires that there are surprise drills to be held. They are in constant communication with one another and with other local, state and federal agencies to ensure that they are aware of everything that is happening in real time.”

Logan said in the Hudson Valley, the Mutual Aid Coordinating Entity works cooperatively to keep tabs on regional supplies and personnel resources.
