KINGSTON – Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) provided additional information and an opportunity for public comment regarding the proposed 50-cent base fares for the Red, Yellow and Blue Routes in the City of Kingston scheduled to begin on April 1.
On Monday, UCAT personnel in collaboration with the county planning department and the county executive’s office also presented revised routes that will maximize the number of residents and destinations served within the city.
UCAT extended its hours of bus service on the Red, Yellow and Blue lines in order to provide a public transit option for attendees.
“The public spoke and UCAT listened. Working with suggestions from the community and input from our City of Kingston drivers, we are proud of the proposed route changes that will better meet the needs of this community” said Michael Olivieri, UCAT public transit dispatch and operations coordinator, and Kingston resident.
The proposed new Red Route expands service to the Lucas/Washington Avenue corridor with service to Dietz Stadium and Forsyth Park, an area that was not part of the route.
The proposed new Blue Route provides direct access to the Broadway campus of Health Alliance Hospital, a key concern of riders.
For the Yellow Route, the Jansen Avenue transfer point will be eliminated and direct service between the Kingston Plaza and Port Ewen is proposed.
The route adjustments were determined following analysis of ridership data, a series of meetings with bus operators, and an examination of comments received since the July 1, 2019 consolidation.
