NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is going to spend over $15.7 million to upgrade equipment and infrastructure that is in a bad state of repair.

The improvements include many in the fire department, said City Manager Joseph Donat.

“Whether it is some turnout gear for the firefighters literally held together by tape in some instances or fire hoses which have been punctured and are really in pretty bad shape, or even some other heavy machinery or IT equipment, we are going to be making some terrific upgrades to our firewall in our city for obvious reasons and also upgrades citywide to some of the desktops and other technology city appliances,” he said.

The bond will also purchase two new fire trucks and upgrade a third, purchase five new police cars and DPW vehicles, perform upgrades at Delano-Hitch Stadium and Recreation Center and pave parking lots and streets.
