MONTICELLO – The new Sullivan County Legislature will have to tackle labor issues early in the new year.

The county’s major employee unions are working with expired contracts that ran out on December 31, 2019.

County Manager Josh Potosek said new agreements with the three unions will have to be ironed out.

“Our CSEA, which is our corrections officers and our civil division under the sheriff, our teamsters, which is roughly half of our 1,100 employees – most of the government center, a lot of Liberty outside of our nursing staff in Liberty, and our newly formed administrative staffing unit, that’s department heads and deputy department heads. That’s in the 30 to 40 range,” he said.

While negotiations get underway, under state law, terms of the expired contracts continue.
