MONTICELLO – The Village of Monticello and Town of Thompson are on the same page now in terms of zoning in the East Broadway Area. The village has approved the Grow the Gateway plan.

Village Mayor Gary Sommers said the zoning will hopefully pave the way for new development, including a hotel that may be going into that area. “This opens it up and makes it a little easier to develop around the Apollo Plaza and certainly all the rest of the area,” he said. “There is nothing currently but the county and the village are looking at an industrial park in that area and I am hoping it will be a true industrial park as we have seen in Orange County with water, sewer, electric, curbing, roads, the whole deal, so it is ready-made for somebody can come in and do something. That’s in the future for that area.”

Sommers said the Grow the Gateway Plan shows the level of cooperation between the Village of Monticello, Town of Thompson and Sullivan County.
