LUMBERLAND – A fire at 592 Proctor Road in the Town of Lumberland on Friday claimed one life.
Fire Chief Eric Robles said the blaze in the two-story log cabin is under investigation by the State Police, Sullivan County Fire Investigation Team and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
When firefighters arrived on the scene before noon, the structure was fully involved in flames. The two-story contemporary house was some 1,000 feet in the woods so they had to call in a number of pumpers from neighboring departments to provide water.
Additional manpower was called in to relieve others who were on the scene all day and to assist in overhaul until 8 p.m. Friday.
