POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Partnership for Manageable Growth has awarded the Village of Pawling $500,000 to support upgrades to the Pawling Joint Sewer Commission’s wastewater treatment plant.

“Our Partnership for Manageable Growth program isn’t only about preserving farmland and open space, we also support smart growth and development of our community centers,” said County Executive Marcus Molinaro. “By assisting municipal partners and improving infrastructure, together we provide these necessary services at affordable rates to our residents, while attracting new residents and businesses and helping Dutchess County thrive.”

“This project will result in a more efficient and sustainable facility that will better serve our residents and allow us to promote the Village of Pawling for future economic development projects that to its increased capacity,” said Village Mayor Robert Liffland.

The funding will be used to reduce the capital cost of updating and expanding the existing system. The total cost of the project is estimated at over $15.8 million.

The village has secured other funding through bond resolutions, other grants totaling $3.6 million, a zero-percent interest hardship loan from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund program; and $600,000 of its fund balance.

As part of the conditions of the county grant, the Dutchess County Water and Wastewater Authority will work with the village to maximize the system’s integration into the county’s regional wastewater infrastructure solution.
