Man shot dead in Poughkeepsie

POUGHKEEPSIE – A man who was shot in a car that crashed near Vassar Brothers Medical Center in the City of Poughkeepsie Thursday afternoon has died, city police said.

Around 2:21 p.m. the police and fire departments were dispatched to the accident. Initial reports indicated that the car had left the roadway and gone up a snowbank, striking a tree, in front of 70 Livingston Street.

When officers arrived on the scene they found one male occupant with injuries in the car.  A closer examination determined that he had suffered gunshot wounds.  Firefighters extricated the victim and treated him with the assistance of Mobile Life Support Services personnel.  The victim was then transported to the hospital in critical condition. He later died, police said.

Police are withholding the man’s name pending notification of relatives.

Uniformed police have been joined at the scene by several detectives and are currently gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
