TOWN OF NEWBURGH – Danskammer Holdings LLC is planning to submit its application under Article 10 of state public service law to construct a new gas-fired power plant on the site of the former facility in the Town of Newburgh.

The formal application will be submitted on or about December 11.

Company Vice President Michelle Hook said the new $450-million to $550-million facility will replace the old one, which will be decommissioned and possibly used in the future for battery storage when sustainable energy sources are further developed.

The new plant will operate about 70 percent of the time and provide power in conjunction with the CPV facility in Wawayanda and the Cricket Valley facility, which is under construction in Dover, Hook said.  “They will displace and offset all of the older natural gas facilities that are currently the primary source of energy for the region, so there are many facilities there that are in excess of 50 or 60 years old that aren’t very efficient, aren’t very clean, that have significant emissions and CPV, Cricket Valley and a new Danskammer will replace those old facilities so people will be getting their power from cleaner sources,” she said.

Once approved, it will take about 2 ½ years to construct in a location further back from the Hudson River with less visual impact than the old facility, Hook said.
