Power due back to 95 percent of O&R’s customers this morning

Power restoration in Warwick

PEARL RIVER – Orange and Rockland Utilities expects to restore electric service by 8 a.m. Wednesday to 95 percent of its Orange, ullivan, Passaic and Sussex County customers whose power was knocked out by the Sunday-Tuesday severe winter storms.

The recovery effort Wednesday will be further fortified by O&R’s acquiring an additional 190 overhead line contractors to aid in power restoration. In addition, the redeployment of O&R personnel from completed recovery work in Bergen and Rockland to Orange, Sullivan, Passaic, and Sussex on Wednesday will further supplement the work effort.

O&R wrapped up nearly all the power outages that resulted from the winter storm damage in Rockland and Bergen counties by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

O&R crews worked through the night, repairing damage and restoring service to the remaining 2,400 of the approximately 30,000 of its customers whose power was knocked out by the storms.

Port Jervis has opened its warming center between the hours of 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. The warming center is located at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 31 West Main Street in Port Jervis. People who are heading to this shelter after 10 p.m. are asked to go first to the police station for an escort to the center.

As of 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, there were a total of approximately 2,416 customers out of power at 313 locations in the following areas:

  •  Orange: (1,720 total) Majority of outages include 661 in Warwick Town, 233 in Deerpark, 158 in Warwick Village, 124 in Wawayanda, 94 in Blooming Grove, 86 in Woodbury, 62 in Monroe Town and 54 in Chester Town. Smaller outages are scattered throughout the county.
  •  Sullivan: (78 total) 43 in Forestburgh, 19 in Wurtsboro 12 in Mamakating and 4 in Lumberland.
