NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh is seeking a donation of a large Christmas tree to display outdoors for the holiday season.

For over 30 years, the city’s public works department has sought out, cut down, transported, and decorated a Christmas tree that is set up on lower Broadway near City Hall.

The tree must be a blue spruce that is 35 feet high. A blue spruce can be identified by its blue-green color, even tapering shape, and stiff needles. Trees from past years have come from the city as well as the towns of New Windsor, Newburgh and Marlboro.

A lighting ceremony and community celebration, organized by former City Councilmember and Special Events Coordinator Regina Angelo, will take place in December after the tree is put in place.

People who may be able to donate a tree are encouraged to contact Lauren Berg, administrative assistant to the city manager, at (845) 569-7301 or lberg@cityofnewburgh-ny.gov.
