Man arrested in Copake shooting

COPAKE – State Police have arrested a Philmont man on a charge of attempted murder in the shooting of another man while at a party on Waldorf Ridge Road in the Town of Copake.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 27 and by that night troopers arrested the suspect, identified as Jesus Figueroa, 26, at his home. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and remanded to the Columbia County Jail without bail.

The victim was rushed to Albany Medical Center where police said he is in stable condition.

When State Police and Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies investigated, they found a Halloween party had been called for Saturday, October 26. The homeowner had hosted it for several friends, but it grew to over 60 people as it was advertised on social media.

During the party, an argument broke out and the victim was shot several times with a handgun.

State Police at Livingston were assisted by City of Hudson Police, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, Copake Rescue and Copake Fire Department.

The investigation is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 518-851-2972.
