WHITE PLAINS – A Bronx man was sentenced in Westchester County Court on Friday to 13 years in prison for kidnap, attempted murder and other charges related to the 2016 gunpoint abduction of his girlfriend.

State Supreme Court Justice Barry Warhit sentenced Johuan Ramos, 31, on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

In the early morning hours of June 27, 2016, in the Bronx, at gunpoint, Ramos confronted the victim in the elevator of her building, forced her into his car and drove north on the Thruway into Yonkers where he told her he intended to kill her and then himself. He proceeded to punch her in the head. As the car approached the Yonkers toll plaza, the victim tried to unbuckle her seatbelt in an attempt to flee. Ramos drove through the toll without paying and reached for the gun he had placed in his lap and pointed it at the woman.

She pulled the steering wheel to the right, causing the vehicle to crash in order to avoid being shot.

The car kept going out of control while Ramos fired four times, three shots hitting the windshield and one, the steering wheel.

The victim attempted to wrest control of the gun but Ramos bit her arm.He then fled into a wooded area and led police on a nine-hour manhunt before being found hiding in a shed in Hasting-in-Hudson.

Due to the crash, the victim suffered a fractured rib, which pierced her lung causing it to collapse. She also sustained two other rib fractures, several bruises and welts.
