MONROE – The sign greeting everyone on the front lawn of Sacred Heart Church in Monroe reads: “Rest in Peace Officer Brian Mulkeen.”

All of the local roads and streets in downtown Monroe are closed to traffic as thousands of police officers lined Still Road to salute to the NYPD officer who was killed by friendly fire during a September 29 investigation into gang activity.

The funeral service for the 33-year-old officer, who was shot in the Bronx, is being held following a police escort from the funeral home.
