Man killed by train was chasing his dog, police say

PORT JERVIS – The man killed by a Metro-North passenger train in Port Jervis Tuesday evening appears to have been attempting to take control of his dog that was running in the vicinity of the railroad tracks, Police Chief William Worden said Wednesday evening.

John Evans, 53, of Port Jervis was struck by the westbound commuter train behind the Family Dollar Store on Jersey Avenue.

Port Jervis and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police investigated the incident.
