TOWN OF WALLKILL – A Clifton, New Jersey man was arrested on Thursday on a felony charge of grand larceny in connection with a bail scam.

State Police in the Town of Wallkill were contacted on July 27 by a town resident who said they may have been tricked into sending bail money to help a relative.

They reported they had been contacted by someone purporting to be a defense attorney and that a nephew had been arrested out of state and needed bail money.

The caller instructed the victim to send $8,000 in cash via Fed Ex to an address in New Jersey. The victim complied, thinking he was helping a relative.

An investigation was opened, and working with the Prospect Park, NJ Police Department, troopers identified a suspect.

Juan Gil-Delao, 22, of Clifton, was charged, arraigned and released after posting $1,000 cash bail.

Police said he is also facing charges in New Jersey.
