NEW CITY – The local group “Moms Demand Action in Rockland County” had an opportunity on Tuesday to sign a piece of the original Woodstock music festival stage in support of federal gun control.

The stage, acquired by Sullivan County native Steve Gold, was signed by several people attending the 50th anniversary of Woodstock in Bethel last month.

Gold brought a panel to State Senator David Carlucci’s New City office on Tuesday for the Rockland County gun control supporters and area state officials to sign.

Gold plans to deliver all eight of his signed stage planks to Congress as a visual demand for gun control reform.

He has concerns for the direction the nation is heading in with the epidemic of mass shootings of late.

“It’s the first day of school and I don’t have to worry, my kids graduated. I don’t have to worry whether they are coming home at night, which I know a lot of parents have come up to me and said how important it was,” Gold said.

Carlucci said the stage panel “is a symbol of unity (sending) one collective voice that the federal government needs to come together and take action now.”

Also on Tuesday, Governor Cuomo signed legislation that will require part-time state residents applying for gun permits to allow New York permitting authorities to review out-of-state mental health records.
