WASHINGTON – The US Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program has awarded the Arlington Fire District $138,045 for firefighting training on incident command and safety.

Chief William Steenbergh said the funding will allow the district to improve officer training and make emergency operations safer for both members and the public.

“Recent changes in New York State laws are greatly advancing the educational requirements, and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our department operations,” Steenbergh said. “With local budgetary constraints, it would be impossible for us to achieve these goals without the assistance of the AFG grant program.”

Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced the grant.
