POUGHKEEPSIE – Over the next two weekends, August 17-18 and August 24-25, Metro-North Railroad crews will be replacing switches south of Poughkeepsie and performing rock-slope stabilization near Garrison on the Hudson Line.

The track switch allows trains to move from one track to another and is crucial to operational flexibility.

Rock-slope stabilization – removing and securing loose rocks along the right-of-way – is a long-term investment in safe and efficient service, officials said.

Those improvement projects require two single-track operations for seven miles between Manitou and Cold Spring and also for 14 miles between Beacon and a track-switch location north of the Poughkeepsie station.

As a result, there is reduced service between Poughkeepsie, New Hamburg and Grand Central Terminal for the next two weekends and schedule adjustments for most trains.
