BLAUVELT – Clausland Mountain Road between Tweed Boulevard and North Greenbush Road in Blauvelt was shut down for six hours Wednesday night after a Freightliner tractor-trailer drove off the road and crashed into a rock and brush-filled earth embankment on private property.
The incident occurred just before 6 p.m. resulting in two 120-gallon diesel tanks rupturing and leaking fuel along with other fluids from the engine compartment of the tractor.
Orangetown Police secured the scene while Orangeburg Fire Department personnel assisted the heavy-duty tow crews in securing the vehicle. They also assisted with hazardous materials containment.
The South Orangetown Ambulance Corps and Rockland Paramedic Services were on standby to assist.
No injuries were reported at the scene.
The State Department of Environmental Conservation was notified and will be conducting further environmental follow-up.
