MONTICELLO – A Sullivan County grand jury indicted a Liberty man for allegedly possessing over 1,000 individual packets of heroin.

Justin Ellis, 33, was charged with two counts of felony drug possession and a misdemeanor for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

District Attorney James Farrell said the indictment alleges that Ellis was driving on South Main Street in Liberty on July 22, 2019 with a suspended license and was found to be in possession of the packets of heroin weighing over a half ounce. It is alleged he possessed the drugs with the intent to sell it.

Ellis was arrested following an investigation by Liberty Village Police and is currently in the Sullivan County Jail. If convicted of the top count of the indictment, he faces up to 12 years in state prison.

“The allegations in this case are very serious involving the possession of a substantial amount of heroin with the intent to sell it,” Farrell said. “I want to thank the Village of Liberty Police for their vigilance and their thorough investigation in this case and the removal of this heroin from our community thus preventing it from being sold on our streets.”
