GOSHEN – When Route 17 from Harriman west was constructed decades ago, the highway was dubbed the “Quickway.” It may now every well be called the “slow way” as normal traffic – usually heavy during morning and evening commuter times – has been slowed to a crawl during the day in the Chester-Goshen area.

Development of the Legoland theme park in the Town of Goshen with construction of a new exit and overpass in Goshen has reduced the two-lane highway in both east and west directions down to one lane. It took motorists close to one hour to drive from Chester to Goshen at mid-day last Thursday.

On Monday, a crane being employed on the highway will be relocated between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and that is expected to slow down traffic as one eastbound lane is expected to be closed.

Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
