Police release identity of Lake Mahopac drowning victim

CARMEL – Police identified the man who drowned when his kayak overturned on Monday afternoon while on Lake Mahopac as Richard Dudyshyn, 55, of Mahopac.

His body was recovered from the lake by divers from the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

An autopsy performed by the Putnam County Coroner’s Office with the preliminary cause of death ruled as drowning.

The investigation remains open as police detectives continue to conduct interviews and the medical examiner awaits the toxicology report before making a final ruling.
