POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie City School District Board of Education will meet Monday afternoon at City Hall to name a new superintendent. Until then, the individual’s identity will remain confidential.

School Board President Felicia Watson said the board chose to hire superintendent search consultants to aid it with a closed search that produced 25 candidates. That way, the current jobs of applicants were protected, Watson said.

The search began on March 12 with an application deadline of May 10.

Focus group sessions and an online survey in English and Spanish gathered feedback from community leaders, business owners, public officials, advocates, unions, district staff, families and students. The information gathered provided a comprehensive profile for the new superintendent.

“Search firm consultants thoroughly reviewed applications, supporting documentation, and conducted extensive interviews, background and reference checks during the vetting process,” said Watson.
