Poughkeepsie residents to cool off with municipal pools

POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie public pools open for the summer today to help residents cool off from first heat wave of the summer.

In his Friday afternoon announcement, Mayor Robert Rolison said “We are excited for a great summer – come take a swim!”

John Penney, the city’s director of community engagement, echoed Rolison’s sentiment saying “It’s been quite a hot spell and the pools can provide a relief and enjoyment for people.”

Pulaski Park Pool, at 162 Washington Street and Spratt Park Pool, at 121 Wilbur Boulevard, will be open daily from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. All children must pass a swim test in order to swim in the deep end of the pool.

Day and season passes are available with picture ID including the new City of Poughkeepsie Municipal ID, and cash only.

They rates for the pools are as follows: Day passes for children (under 14, city and non-city residents), $1. Day passes for adults, $3 city resident, $4 non-city resident; $25 family passes for city residents; $85.00 family passes for non-city residents.

Lap swimming is available at Spratt Park Pool daily 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 p.m.to 7 p.m.  Swimming lessons will be available at Pulaski Park Pool starting July 15. The registration form is here.

The city may close either pool due to inclement weather or unsanitary conditions.
