Unemployment continues decline in Valley

ALBANY – The April unemployment rate for the Hudson Valley is 3.2 percent, down from 3.6 percent in March and down from 3.8 percent in April 2018, the state labor department reported Tuesday.

Columbia County, with 2.9 percent joblessness, was the lowest in the state.

Dutchess and Rockland County each had 3.1 percent unemployment followed by Putnam, Ulster and Westchester counties with 3.2 percent.

Orange County had 3.3 percent joblessness while Sullivan County had 3.4 percent and Greene County had 4.1 percent.

Region-wide in April, there were 36,500 unemployed, down from 41,600 in March and down from 42,800 in April 2018.

Year-over-year in April, the labor force increased by 11,500 or 1.0 percent, to 1,144,300.

The Hudson Valley region had the second lowest unemployment rate in the state; only the Long Island region was lower, by 0.2 percent.
