NEW WINDSOR – The Town of New Windsor has completed its transition and is now providing residents with water from the Catskill Aqueduct. Previously, the Butterhill wells were found to contain low levels of PFAS and PFOA and as a precaution, town officials decided to switch over to the aqueduct.

Town administration said the Butterhill wells still remain in the distribution system and will require roughly one additional week to work its way through.

There is no specific timetable for a return to the Butterhill wells. Officials said discussions are ongoing with relevant state agencies to ensure a safe and adequate supply of water is permanently available going forward. The City of New York is planning to shut down the aqueduct in October for maintenance.
