MIDDLETOWN – Middletown City Court Judge Steven Brockett announced
on Wednesday that he will run for Orange County Court judge this fall.
The Democratic jurist, who has been on the Middletown bench since 2005,
will challenge Republican incumbent Judge Robert Freehill for the 10-year
term.

In addition to serving as Middletown’s full-time judge, Brockett
presides over the Middletown Drug Treatment Court and Military Veterans
Track. In conjunction with the Orange County Department of Mental Health,
Brockett created the Middletown Mental health Court Connections program
in 2009.

That Court Connections program was the pilot mental health court in Orange
County. A similar program has since been established in the City of Port
Jervis and one is in the planning stages in the City of Newburgh.
