Dutchess and Rockland counties are hosting rabies clinics for pets in July.

The Rockland and Dutchess County Health Departments will host free rabies clinics for cats, dogs, and ferrets next month.

Rockland County is hosting its event from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, July 14th at the Rockland County Fire Training Center, located at 35 Firemen’s Memorial Drive in Pomona.

An appointment is required for each animal. Guests are asked to arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before their scheduled appointment time. The shots are free; however, a $5 donation per animal will help defray costs. To register for an appointment, please visit vaccine registration.  For assistance making an appointment, call (845) 364-2656. Please check Facebook.com/rocklandgov for weather-related cancellations before arrival.

Dutchess County is hosting its rabies clinic from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 20th, located at 1 Overocker Road in Poughkeepsie. This clinic is open to dogs, cats, and domestic ferrets 3 months of age and older. Pre-registration is required; registration is open at DCSPCA.org or by calling the DCSPCA at 845-452-7722, extension 425.

The clinic is free for Dutchess County residents; non-residents will be charged a fee of $10 per pet vaccinated. All dogs must be on leash, and cats and domestic ferrets must be in carriers.

New York State law requires that all dogs, cats, and domesticated ferrets be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age. Owners can be fined up to $250 if they fail to get their pets vaccinated and keep them up to date.
