LIBERTY- In it’s 13th year, the Thunder 102 & 104.5 Country Cares for St. Jude’s radiothon raised $147,135 increasing the grand total raised to fight childhood cancer to more than $750,000 since the event’s inception.  Business and political leaders as well as members of the community joined Bold Gold Radio personalities Paul Ciliberto, Jenn Clarke, Eddie Wilson, Therese, and station general manager Dawn Ciorciari live on the air over a two-day period to raise money for the cause.

Ciliberto, the host of Ciliberto and Friends, has been hosting the radiothon for years.  He spoke about the importance of supporting the doctors, nurses, researchers, and staff at St. Jude’s in their work to eliminate childhood cancer.

“They freely share their research,” he said.  “The work advances around the world and it creates protocols that people are using including right here in the United States to save those who are battling cancer.”

Scott Quick from Veterinarian Over Quality Pet Care in Monticello was a guest on the radio and he said that he was there because he believes strongly in St. Jude’s mission.

”People get cancer.  There is no way around it.  I don’t think we’re ever going to stop it, but what’s sad is kids who have cancer haven’t even had a chance to live life yet,” he said.

In addition to providing clinical care and research to children with cancer, St. Jude provides support to the family of their patients, all at no cost.  Jenn Clark explained, ”The great work that St. Jude does is not just to treat childhood cancer but to treat the entire family because they never receive a bill.”

When it comes to raising funds, Ciliberto says that every donation, both large and small, makes a difference.

“You never know, it could have been one of our donors who gave that one dollar that enabled research that came up with a breakthrough,” he said.
