CARMEL – A retired member of the New York City Police Department who lived in Carmel will be remembered Saturday at the New York State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Memorial held on Long Island.

Lt. John McArdle died in March 2023 from 9-11 related cancer.

Putnam Stephen Driscoll FOP chapter President Pete Conlin remembered McArdle as a hero. “John was a big part of the early days of the lodge and a trusted friend to our late founder Jimmy O’Neill.”

Conlin said McArdle “could have retired following 9-11 and left the recovery and clean-up to another lieutenant but those were John’s guys down there and he wasn’t leaving until the job was complete. John was a ‘cop’s boss’ always a champion.”

Saturday’s remembrance will take place at the Empire State Lodge, 911 Police Plaza in Hicksville at 11 a.m.
