BEACON – A Beacon man was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly stole an unoccupied, running vehicle in the area of Main and South Brett Streets in Beacon and crashed it into a light pole on Route 9D in the area of South Avenue.

When officers located the suspect, later identified as Edward Brabham, 54, in the area of Route 9D and I-84, he fled and crashed the car again, this time into a guard rail on the highway.

He then fled on foot and was apprehended by police who placed him into custody under the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.

Two officers sustained minor injuries from jumping fences. They were treated at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh and released.

Brabham was charged with burglary, for initially taking property from a Tompkins Terrace apartment that was being renovated. He returned that property.

He was also charged with reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal mischief.

He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail due to prior convictions.
