MILLERTON – Dutchess County 911 received a report of a barn fire on Barton Street in Millerton at 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday. It dispatched the Millerton Fire Department and surrounding agencies to battle the blaze Tuesday morning. The Millerton Fire Chief arrived at 7 a.m. and reported a large fire in a barn.
“This is a two-story 50 by 50 structure with fire through the roof,” the chief told Dutchess 911 as he requested a second alarm for additional departments and manpower to the scene.
As of 7:30 a.m., Millerton, Amenia, Wassaic, and Pine Plains fire departments worked at the scene or relocating equipment to the Millerton area. The Lakeville and Sharon fire departments from Connecticut have been requested to respond to the scene with apparatus and manpower.
Law enforcement was dispatched to control the growing number of spectators who are gathering at the fire.
