Paul S. Bastone, Jr.
June 4, 1967 – September 19, 2024

Paul S. Bastone, Jr., entered into rest on Thursday, September 19, 2024. He was 57.

He was the son of Paul S. Bastone, Sr. and Carol (Bauer) Kostrubal. He was born on June 4, 1967, in New York, NY.

A longtime area resident, who was raised in Stony Point, Paul was a staff technical account manager for VMWare by Broadcom, New York, NY. He married his wife Valerie Collins in 1992.

He enjoyed exploring the outdoors and “boldly go where no one has gone before” that complimented his love for flying and sailing. Years ago, he pursued obtaining a pilot’s license. After Harrison was born, he wanted to share his love of the outdoors with his family. He purchased and taught himself to sail a 26’ Macgregor sailboat which his family enjoyed both on Greenwood Lake and the Hudson River. Another outdoor hobby he enjoyed with friends and his family was Geocaching which was done both locally and on some vacations. He also loved taking photographs of nature, family, friends, and our pets. Our pets Shelby, Kevin McCallister, Starsky, and Oreo will also sorely miss him.

His greatest love was his family and friends that will miss him immensely. Some of his interests brought out the child in him and was entirely enjoyed by his son, nieces, and nephews. He loved Star Wars and had worn his Darth Vader outfit to some of his father’s Halloween concerts, nephew birthday parties, and dueled with a young nephew also in a Darth Vader costume. His love of Star Wars also paralleled his passion for space, “the final frontier”.

He was extremely talented in carpentry and some of his beautiful work is appreciated in our finished basement and throughout our home. One of his earlier accomplishments he did for Harrison as a young child, was to design and build a loft bed that was enjoyed for many years. Another one of his hobbies was building his LEGO sets, which many did include themes such as space and Star Wars.

Paul always considered his biggest accomplishment was our son, Harrison. He loved to support Harrison in all of his sports and activities. Paul started up a First Lego League at Harrison’s school, coached his baseball league, and was an assistant Den leader of the cub scouts. Paul was so very proud when Harrison was accepted to Rochester Institute of Technology. Our hope was that Paul would be able to celebrate at Harrison’s graduation in May 2025, but we will carry him in our thoughts and hearts that day.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Collins; a son, Harrison P. Bastone of New Windsor, NY; his parents, Paul (Peggy) Bastone of Garnerville, NY and Carol (Michael) Kostrubal of Stony Point, NY; siblings, Donna Bastone, Adrienne DeLucia and her husband Joe, Steve Bastone and his wife Windy, Chris Bastone and his wife Kristine, Lori Eliopoulos and her husband Chris and Jason Kostrubal; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life at Bear Mountain Inn on September 29, 2024, from 10a – 2pm. Valerie and Harrison welcome all of Paul’s friends and family to join them in celebrating Paul’s life and sharing memories of him. Casual attire only (shorts and jeans are encouraged).

Donations in Paul’s memory can be made to either Hospice of Orange and Sullivan at www.hospiceoforange.com or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at www.mskcc.org.
