Robert Patrick Welsh, 83, a lifelong resident of New Windsor, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence on January 6, 2021.

Bob was born to Helen and William Welsh on December 14, 1937. He had one sibling, William Welsh, who predeceased him on September 29, 1967.

Bob spent his life serving others and being with others, initially in the National Guard where he trained to be a sharpshooter. Thankfully, Bob never saw combat. Bob had a long career as a heavy equipment operator and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 825, and retired in 1997. Bob was also a lifelong, proud member of the New Windsor Fire Department, where he served as fire chief from 1967-1969.

Former Chief Welsh

Bob had many lifelong friends who were like family to him. He was also a loving and devoted uncle to his brother’s children and their families. Bob had a great sense of humor and his favorite activity was “busting his friends’ chops”. New Windsor was always home for Bob. May he rest in heavenly peace where he is once again reunited with his family, and with his dearest friend, Frank Malloy. Bob will be sorely missed by all those who loved him. Finally, Bob’s family would like to say a special thank you to The Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, They became family to Bob, We are forever thankful for their excellent care, their love and patience with Bob, and loving him like family.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 10 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with burial following in Calvary Cemetery, New Windsor.
