Joseph Dominick DeStefano, 59, of Marlboro, NY peacefully passed away at home on January 4, 2021, surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with brain cancer. 

Joe was born on March 26, 1961, to Dominick and Theresa (Elsie) DeStefano in Newburgh, NY. He attended St. Francis Catholic School and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in 1979. He graduated DeVry Technical Institute in 1983. He married the love of his life, Janet DeStefano (Heerwagen) in New Jersey in 1986. Joe worked for 26 years at Metal Container in Newburgh, NY as a technician and chemical processor. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most importantly he loved and was most proud of his loving family and friends. Everyone that knew him, loved his dynamic personality and kindness. 

He is survived by his wife Janet DeStefano of Marlboro, son Andrew DeStefano of Newburgh, Daughter Katie Myers, son-in-law Steve Myers, and grandson Anthony Myers of Ballston Lake, NY, mother-in-law Mary Heerwagen of Florida, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Theresa (Elsie) DeStefano, father Dominick DeStefano, brothers William DeStefano and Michael DeStefano, sister Nancy Galietta, father-in-law Richard Heerwagen, and son Christopher DeStefano.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joseph DeStefano to either Hudson Valley Hospice, 400 Aaron Court, Kingston, NY 12401 or in memory of Joseph DeStefano to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Office of Development at P.O. Box 27106, New York, NY 10087 for Glioblastoma research.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 7 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Newburgh.
